You'll see five products of ours on a green background. Come back here and use the 'add new comment' function at the bottom of the page to tell us what each of the 5 items is. Note: your post won't be visible straight away so don't be alarmed - I need to check it for swear words first ;D

Web Ad Great New Zealand Quiz

Our first blurb in the quiz tells visitors a little about the history of Acquisitions and, in particular, our Christchurch stores...

"‘Acquisitions - Perfect for Gifts’ began life in the late 1970’s as a small ‘Trade Aid’ like store called ‘Third World Crafts’, which was attached to the Dunedin Environment Centre. Fortunately at this time corduroy flares and platform shoes for men were on their way out and a quality selection of gifts and home wares were on their way in.

By the mid 1980s, while the world was on a steady diet of Michael Jackson and Madonna music videos, the name ‘Third World Crafts’ was let go in favour of the new, more contemporary name Acquisitions (it was thought by some, that calling themselves ‘Some Things We Acquired’ was just a little long-winded).

Around the same time the buyers were reviewing and changing the product lines to suit a more ‘modern’ and discerning clientele. Thus a new era in gift shopping was born and although Acquisitions wasn’t quite ready to take on the world, they were becoming world famous in Dunedin.

In the year 2000, as everyone was thanking their lucky stars that the world’s computer systems hadn’t crashed and also lamenting the fact that flying cars hadn’t just suddenly appeared, Acquisitions introduced Christchurch to the world of great selection and premium gift wrapping with its purple and green store in the Westfield Riccarton Shopping Centre. Acquisitions even won ‘Best New Store’ at the Westfield Retail Excellence Awards that year.

Although at the time some people were finding it difficult to come up with a suitably shortened term for the 2000’s, for Acquisitions the early ‘Noughties’ were a time of rapid growth in Christchurch. They opened their City Mall store in 2001 followed by Eastgate and Northlands in 2003 and finally a store in The Palms Shopping Centre in 2004.

Sadly, due to the quakes Acquisitions City Mall is no more but its spirit lives on at the Riccarton, Northlands, Palms and Eastgate stores - they’re all still open despite the rocking and rolling going on in Christchurch and they’re all Perfect for Gifts."
